Even though many of you will not be designing a web-based project, it is important to think about the students we have in our classrooms. They are our audience yet, not in any ways a passive group. The lecture format is designed to have students be listeners. Internet-based and other multimedia based instruction requires the student to be an active-learner. And that is what you will be working on in this class.

We must understand who we are working with. The gap known as the digital divide is multi-faceted. Most of us refer to the gap between those students who have Internet access and those who do not. This is an important topic that needs to be addressed, but that’s for another course! Here, we are looking at ways to communicate information.

This study looks at the gap between students and teachers – and the role technology plays from each point-of-view. Please read through the study. Pay particular attention to the summary of findings as well as Parts 2 and 3.

    The article gives past information that is common knowledge today. The authors of 21st century skills should update their article with possible solutions for the problems that cause the gap. Thankfully, here at Azusa we as educators are stressing interactivity and communication with students to increase productivity through technology as one solution to help close the gap.
